Recyclable & Sustainable Materials Overview
What are sustainable materials?
Sustainable materials are eco-conscious alternative to traditional non-recycled materials that are designed to minimize negative impacts on the enviornment and promote responsible resource management.
Eco-friendly recycled and sustainable plastics derived from renewable sources or recycled and reprocessed materials offer comparable mechanical properties to their convential material counterparts while significantly reducing their environmental footprint.
Interstate Advanced Materials is committed to providing sustainable material alternatives with similar or superior mechanical properties than the materials they replace. Products on this page are either manufactured using recycled material or are recyclable products.
Sustainable materials have several identifiable characteristics that set them apart from non-recycled and non-sustainable materials. Sustainable materials are derived from renewable resources or made with recycled content, reducing waste and ensuring that they do not deplete natural resources. These materials have a low environmental impact, using less energy during their production, distribution, and use. They are also non-toxic, containing no hazardous substances. Durability is an important feature of sustainable materials that minimizes the need for frequent repairs or replacements. Proper disposal is considered in their design, either through recycling or biodegradability, to minimize waste. Sustainable materials are also sourced ethically, adhering to fair labor laws and respecting human rights throughout their supply chain.
What is not a sustainable material?
Unsustainable materials include materials made from non-renewable resources, high carbon footprint materials, hazardous substances, unsustainably harvested wood, water-intensive materials, non-biodegradable materials, conflict minerals, and materials with poor end-of-life management. These materials have significant negative impacts on the environment and society.
Prime Bubble-X was created as an alternative to PVC because of its unique physical characteristics along with its ability to be recycled into a normal waste stream.
