How To Measure and Cut-To-Size Policy | Close it

Cut-To-Size Items are Non-Returnable!

As per our Shipping and Returns Policy, custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-returnable. If you need an over- or undersized item, note it under \"Comments\" during Checkout. Cut-to-size orders have an acceptable cut tolerance of 1/8" (0.125"), so clarify if the adjustment is to be made on the (+) or (-) side of the saw blade. Please review our full return and shipping policy here.

Measure Twice, Cut Once

Since custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-refundable, be very careful while measuring your dimensions. As each cut is nominal, even the slightest miscalculation could be costly.

How to Use a Measuring Tape

Extend your tape measure several inches to find the 1 and 2 inch markers. In between the inch markers you’ll find 16 equally spaced tick marks.

Measure by counting the increments beyond the nearest inch. As the increments decrease, so does the length of the mark. For example, 1/2\" has a bigger mark than 1/4\" which has a bigger mark than 1/8\". The smallest mark follows at 1/16\". Please be aware that some measuring tapes may have even smaller increments.

Features of a Measuring Tape: Sliding End Hook

The sliding end hook is designed for two different types of measurements. An outside measurement (where the hook of the tape hangs over an edge), requires the hook to slide out a bit to account for the thickness of the material. When making an inside measurement (where the hook will push up against a surface), the clip slides in, again, accounting for its thickness. The measuring tape self-adjusts to guarantee an accurate measurement (as far as the tape is concerned).

Description

High-Strength Tooling Board for High-Detail Machining & Heavy-Duty Signage

Precision Board High Density Urethane (HDU) PBLT-30 is a high-density, rigid, closed-cell polyurethane foam engineered for demanding low temperature tooling and signage applications. With a density of 30 lb/ft3, it offers higher impact resistance and surface hardness compared to lighter grades, making it a great choice for intricate CNC machining and long-term durability.

PBLT-30 maintains its dimensional stability in continuous temperatures up to 200°F. Its uniform, grain-free internal structure is exceptionally moisture-resistant to help prevent rot, warping, or cracking. This dense, structurally stable substrate provides a modern, high-durability alternative to heavy hardwoods that allows for higher feed rates and is easier to machine.

Why Choose PBLT-30 Precision Board?

PBLT-30 is a strong choice for machinists and sign makers requiring:

Superior Surface Hardness:
Its 30 lb density provides excellent resistance to dents and impacts, making it ideal for high-traffic signage and heavy-use master models.
Ultra-Fine Machining Detail:
The dense closed-cell structure supports extremely tight tolerances and intricate "crisp" edges that lighter foams cannot sustain.
Thermal & Dimensional Stability:
Handles continuous heat up to 200°F (dry) - perfect for tool proofing, vacuum form tooling, thermoforming patterns, and prepreg composite layup tooling.
Sustainability:
Eco-friendly material with a certified 3 to 1 carbon balance. It is non-toxic, inert, and contains no VOCs or carcinogens.
Very Low Absorption:
97% closed-cell structure & hydrophobic nature ensures it absorbs almost no moisture, helping support consistent finishing and outdoor performance.
Rigorous Compliance:
Meets flammability burn test requirements for ASTM D-1692-74, FAR 25.853, Mil-P-26514, and ASTM D635.

HDU vs. Wood: Up to 10x Longer Service Life

Precision Board PBLT-30 is the replacement for heavy hardwoods in the tooling and signage industries.

  • Choose PBLT-30 (This Sheet) if you need a high-strength, "knot-free" uniform surface that machines consistently in any direction without tearing. It eliminates the labor of sanding wood grain or filling natural defects, reducing fabrication time.
  • Choose Wood only if you require a specific natural grain aesthetic for staining. For dimensional signage and precision patterns, PBLT-30 offers superior consistency and environmental longevity.

Fabrication & Machining

This material is exceptionally friendly to CNC machining and standard HSS woodworking tools. Its tight cell structure produces heavy chips rather than fine dust during machining, supporting a cleaner shop environment and allowing for higher spindle speeds. The 30 lb. density helps promote excellent edge retention for intricate details. For bonding blocks, use HDU-compatible adhesives to maintain integrity across seams for the creation of complex shapes and thicker sheets.
