PEEK Plastic Overview
What is PEEK?
PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a high-performance engineering plastic with excellent mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and outstanding resistance to harsh chemicals and hydrolysis. It remains stiff at high temperatures and can be used continuously at temperatures up to 338°F (170°C). PEEK has a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating and very low smoke and toxic gas emissions when exposed to flame, making it suitable for a wide range of aerospace, oil and gas, food and beverage processing, and semiconductor industry applications.
PolyEtherEtherKetone, also known as PEEK plastic, is a semi-crystalline high performance thermoplastic with excellent engineering properties. Superb temperature resistance, great chemical resistance, and excellent tolerance mechanical properties make PEEK ideal for many demanding applications, including aerospace components, wire and cable insulation, automotive engine parts, chemical process applications, medical implants, and more.
Is PEEK plastic toxic?
PEEK is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic - there are no known health effects specifically caused by exposure to standard PEEK. Biocompatible and medical grade versions of PEEK are specially designed to meet the requirements for medical technology components.
Is PEEK a hard plastic?
PEEK is a rigid, tough, and mechanically strong high performance plastic favored for demanding applications requiring excellent resistance to extreme heat, pressure, and chemicals.
Is PEEK plastic food grade?
Specific grades of PEEK sheet are FDA compliant. Natural PEEK is safe to use in direct contact with foods such as vegetables and dairy that have strict preparation requirements. PEEK that is FDA compliant is used in both food packaging and production.
