Cut-To-Size Items are Non-Returnable!

As per our Shipping and Returns Policy, custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-returnable. If you need an over- or undersized item, note it under \"Comments\" during Checkout. Cut-to-size orders have an acceptable cut tolerance of 1/8" (0.125"), so clarify if the adjustment is to be made on the (+) or (-) side of the saw blade. Please review our full return and shipping policy here.

Measure Twice, Cut Once

Since custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-refundable, be very careful while measuring your dimensions. As each cut is nominal, even the slightest miscalculation could be costly.

How to Use a Measuring Tape

Extend your tape measure several inches to find the 1 and 2 inch markers. In between the inch markers you’ll find 16 equally spaced tick marks.

Measure by counting the increments beyond the nearest inch. As the increments decrease, so does the length of the mark. For example, 1/2\" has a bigger mark than 1/4\" which has a bigger mark than 1/8\". The smallest mark follows at 1/16\". Please be aware that some measuring tapes may have even smaller increments.

Features of a Measuring Tape: Sliding End Hook

The sliding end hook is designed for two different types of measurements. An outside measurement (where the hook of the tape hangs over an edge), requires the hook to slide out a bit to account for the thickness of the material. When making an inside measurement (where the hook will push up against a surface), the clip slides in, again, accounting for its thickness. The measuring tape self-adjusts to guarantee an accurate measurement (as far as the tape is concerned).

Description

Reduce Bridging & Ratholing with Tivar® 88

Tivar® 88 UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is a specialized grade made specifically for bulk material handling. Dark blue in color, it is a versatile, cost-effective machinable plastic with extreme durability and exceptional resistance to abrasion, impact, and chemicals.

Featuring an very low coefficient of friction, Tivar® 88 helps promote the smooth flow of cohesive or non-free flowing bulk solids. It is the ideal, proven solution when you need to reduce or eliminate arching, ratholing, and erratic material flow challenges in bins, bunkers, hoppers, chutes, and railcars.

Looking for general-purpose or standard options? We also offer Natural Virgin UHMW and Reprocessed UHMW for traditional wear applications.

Why Choose Tivar® 88?

Tivar® 88 is a premium glass-filled grade engineered to optimize bulk material flow and extend part life without the need for external surface coatings. It is the correct choice if you need:

Reliable Material Flow:
Promotes steady bulk material flow and solves erratic flow issues like arching (stagnant material clinging to the walls) and ratholing (arching over the hopper outlet).
Premium Glass-Filled Grade:
The specialized glass-filled polymer matrix provides a remarkably low coefficient of friction and exceptional wear resistance that reduces liner wear and maintenance.
Extreme Durability:
High wear resistance ensures that parts will not easily break or require frequent replacement.
Low Moisture Absorption:
Absorbs almost no moisture, helping reduce sticking and freezing-related hang-up.
Noise Reduction:
Can help reduce noise and friction in sliding contact applications.

Tivar® 88 vs. Virgin UHMW: Which Do You Need?

While both offer excellent impact strength, they are engineered for different purposes.

  • Choose Tivar® 88 (This Sheet) if you are handling bulk solids and need to reduce bridging, ratholing, and erratic flow. Its glass-filled formulation provides lower surface friction and improved wear performance for demanding bulk material handling environments.
  • Choose Virgin UHMW if you need general sliding abrasion resistance at a lower price point, but do not require the highly specialized glass-filled formulation found in Tivar® 88.

Fabrication & Machining

Because Tivar® 88 is a premium glass-filled grade, it is highly abrasive to standard tooling. While it can be machined, cut, and drilled, carbide-tipped tools are strongly recommended to prevent rapid blade dulling. Note that its high toughness means it does not hold fine threads as well as stiffer plastics like Nylon or Acetal (Delrin®). Use coarse threads or metal inserts for best results.
