Cut-To-Size Items are Non-Returnable!

As per our Shipping and Returns Policy, custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-returnable. If you need an over- or undersized item, note it under \"Comments\" during Checkout. Cut-to-size orders have an acceptable cut tolerance of 1/8" (0.125"), so clarify if the adjustment is to be made on the (+) or (-) side of the saw blade. Please review our full return and shipping policy here.

Measure Twice, Cut Once

Since custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-refundable, be very careful while measuring your dimensions. As each cut is nominal, even the slightest miscalculation could be costly.

How to Use a Measuring Tape

Extend your tape measure several inches to find the 1 and 2 inch markers. In between the inch markers you’ll find 16 equally spaced tick marks.

Measure by counting the increments beyond the nearest inch. As the increments decrease, so does the length of the mark. For example, 1/2\" has a bigger mark than 1/4\" which has a bigger mark than 1/8\". The smallest mark follows at 1/16\". Please be aware that some measuring tapes may have even smaller increments.

Features of a Measuring Tape: Sliding End Hook

The sliding end hook is designed for two different types of measurements. An outside measurement (where the hook of the tape hangs over an edge), requires the hook to slide out a bit to account for the thickness of the material. When making an inside measurement (where the hook will push up against a surface), the clip slides in, again, accounting for its thickness. The measuring tape self-adjusts to guarantee an accurate measurement (as far as the tape is concerned).

Description

High-Strength PAI for Metal Replacement at Extreme Temperatures

Torlon® 4203 sheet is one of the highest-performing melt-processable thermoplastics, engineered to maintain its structural integrity where many others fail. As a polyamide-imide (PAI), it offers a unique combination of metal-like performance and the design flexibility of a polymer.

This material is specifically designed for high-load structural applications where strength, impact resistance, and dimensional stability must be maintained across demanding temperature conditions. Torlon® 4203 is commonly post-cured for enhanced chemical resistance and dimensional stability; post-machining cure may be recommended for critical finished components.

Note: as a hygroscopic material, proper moisture control is recommended for maintaining tolerance in humid environments.

Looking for wear-grade or glass-reinforced options? For bearing and wear applications, we also offer Torlon® 4301 and high-stiffness Torlon® 5030 (Glass-Filled).

Why Choose Torlon® 4203 Sheet?

Torlon® 4203 (Electrical Grade) is a specialized material for high-strength structural components. It offers excellent electrical insulation, high impact strength, and high elongation compared with many other PAI stock shape grades. It is the correct choice if you need:

Extreme Thermal Stability:
Maintains strong mechanical performance in continuous service environments up to 500°F (260°C).
Superior Compressive Strength:
Provides higher compressive strength than many advanced engineering plastics under severe stress and heavy static loads.
Exceptional Toughness:
Combines high stiffness with excellent impact resistance to help reduce cracking, chipping, or brittle failure in critical parts.
Broad Chemical Resistance:
Highly resistant to many chemicals, including hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, aviation fluids, and automotive fluids. Strong bases, saturated steam, and some high-temperature acid systems may require an alternate material.
Low CLTE:
Features a very low coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE), helping precision-machined parts maintain dimensional stability during thermal cycling.

Torlon® 4203 vs. PEEK: Which Do You Need?

While both are high-performance materials, they serve different engineering requirements.

  • Choose Torlon® 4203 (This Sheet) if your application involves temperatures exceeding 400°F or requires maximum compressive strength and stiffness. It is an excellent choice for high-load structural components.
  • Choose PEEK if your application involves strong bases, hot water, saturated steam, or high-pressure steam environments where PAI may be susceptible.

Fabrication & Machining

Torlon® 4203 is a very hard material and requires specialized machining techniques. Use carbide or PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tooling to achieve the best surface finishes. Due to its high strength, it holds threads exceptionally well. Always consult our machining guide for specific feed and speed recommendations to avoid internal stress buildup.
