Robotics and Precision Equipment Manufacturing Materials

Robotics Building Materials Overview
What plastics are used in robotics?

Robotics play critical roles in the construction of robotics and precision equipment. From cable insulation to casings, armor, and grippers, the unqiue and versatile nature of plastics make them suitable for many aspects of robotics. Some of the plastics used in robotics include:

Known for its strength, impact resistance, and rigidity, ABS is used for structural components, robot frames, and enclosures.

Polycarbonate is transparent and durable with excellent impact resistance and high temperature resistance. It is often seen in sensor housings, protective covers, and casings.

Lightweight, resistant to chemicals, and cost-effective, polypropylene (PP) is a versatile plastic that sees use in cable management systems, connectors, and enclosures.

Polyethylene (PE) is lightweight with good electrical insulation properties. It is used in cable insulation, cable carriers, and protective tubing.

Polyurethane is a flexible and elastomeric plastic known for its excellent abrasion resistance and shock absorption properties. It is used for grippers, manipulators, and components that require flexibility and compliance.

Silicone is soft and flexible and features high thermal resistance as well as electrical insulation properties. It is commonly used for grippers, sensors, and applications requiring a non-slip or non-marking surface.

Nylon is strong, durable, and features good mechanical properties. Its high strength and wear resistance make it well-suited for gears, bearings, and other wear components.

Materials for robotics applications fall under NAICS code #333992.
