Retail Display and Fixture Materials Overview
What plastics are used in retail displays?

Plastics are an essential part of retail displays, signage, and store fixtures. Versatile, flexible, and easily fabricated, plastics provide design choices for eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing displays. Plastics like acrylic, PVC, styrene, and ABS provide varied properties that make them better suited for certain display and signage applications. Plastics used in retail displays include:

Acrylic is a popular choice for Point-of-Purchase (POP) displays and store fixtures due to its clarity, impact resistance, and ease of fabrication. It can be easily molded, cut, and shaped into various forms, such as shelves, signage, and product holders. Acrylic can also be colored, textured, or printed on to enhance the attractiveness of displays.

PVC is a versatile, durable, and cost-effective plastic that can be easily molded, extruded, or laminated, making it suitable for creating different display components, including signage, shelves, dividers, and frames. PVC has great ink adhesion and may be printed on or coated to achieve specific visual effects.

HDPE sees use in displays and store fixtures that need high strength and impact resistance. Its resistance to chemicals, moisture, and UV allows for its use both indoors and outdoors.

Polycarbonate (PC) is a virtually unbreakable transparent and clear plastic. Like acrylic, it is suitable for POP displays and store fixtures and is preferred over acrylic for displays where high impact resistance is necessary. Other than displays, polycarbonate sees use in protective shields and display cases for products. Polycarbonate may be thermoformed into custom shapes.

Styrene is a lightweight and cost-effective plastic material and is popular for use in POP displays due to its excellent ink adhesion properties, rigity, durability, and ease of fabrication. Besides POP displays, styrene is used in tradeshow displays, indoor and outdoor signage, and aisle markers.

PETG is a transparent and durable plastic with excellent clarity. It can be easily thermoformed into various shapes and is often used for shelves, signage, and product holders.

ABS is a versatile and rigid plastic commonly used in POP displays and store fixtures due to its durability and impact resistance. It can be easily molded, vacuum-formed, or extruded into different shapes, making it suitable for components like brackets, trays, and housings.

Materials for retail display and fixture applications fall under NAICS code #337215.
